Making Time
There are multiple elements that impact our lives and our work. Whether or not we are able to carry out good work isn’t only a matter of motivation (do we WANT to do good work?), it’s also a matter of competing pressures for our time. How do we navigate these pressures, and how do our values influence our decision making?
Once you’ve completed the Value Sort, dig deeper into your own experiences with our Making Time Tool.
How do you spend your time?
Click on the button above to access the online Making Time exercise. This tool works both on desktop and mobile devices.
Begin by listing the various ways you spend your time. You will be asked to select your previously completed value sort. You’ll then be asked to add activities, then asked to sort those activities into categories, considering the amount of time you devote to each. You will then have the opportunity to reflect on the relationship between your values and how you spend your time.
Like our Value Sort, this exercise allows users to track group responses by using “event codes”. Event code access allows users to view the reflections sorted by all joiners to that code, so that you can reflect as a group.
Directions
Step 1: Pick a previous value sort to compare to how you spend your time.
Step 2: List the activities you do in a week.
Step 3: Sort your activities into categories.
Step 4: Rank your activities by the amount of time you spend on them in a typical week.
